Cheap CCTV, not often a good buy…
Part of my job is to unravel the mess left behind by poor CCTV or access control installation work. Closed Circuit Television does work, but relies on the CCTV installer. The site I was at recently, emphasises the sort of poor service provided by some Security equipment providers.
The site is a Leisure and retail park that has a CCTV system covering some of the vulnerable areas.
The client agreed to upgrade the Digital recorder. The original Dedicated Micros Eco unit did not have enough memory, and the CCTV service provider offered a capable Vista Quantum unit. All good so far.
So lets have a look at the installation…
Oh dear, its too big. An easy mistake to make, but surely the installer realises the cabinet need to be locked ?(Data Protection Act)…err no…
Not a great start. Lets have a look at the power supply to the unit…
The worst part about this is that the client paid for and had installed two non switched fused spurs. The installer chose not to use them, but just plugged the equipment in! Really poor. Needless to say the client wants to move CCTV service provider.
